City Hall, Public Works and Municipal Liquor – Major Rehab Project
City of Silver Bay, Silver Bay, Minnesota
Silver Bay, Minnesota is a town located on the historic U.S. Highway 61 on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The town has a rich history in the region’s taconite mining and processing industry.
Our Facility and Site Asset Management Team worked with City of Silver Bay, Minnesota on an extensive rehabilitation project of several city owned buildings. We provided architectural design services in the predesign and schematic design phases as well as construction documents, bidding and overall construction administration for the project.
Work was done at the city hall, public works building and municipal liquor store. During the CIP planning process, we put together a plan with city officials and staff to prioritize the highest-level critical needs using an integrated systems planning approach. The City of Silver Bay wanted to improve the indoor air quality at the city hall building and address excessive temperature swings and airtightness issues. To address these concerns, a new gable roof with overhangs was installed to replace the flat roof, which included wall to roof air tightness details, removal of a large skylight with replacement of LED interior lighting and a new HVAC system sized for the improvement of the building envelope.
As part of the project, the foundation support structure at the nearby public works building was replaced to stabilize the building.
