Director of Building Science

Jim Larson

Jim joined CR-BPS in 2016 as our Building Performance Specialist and Project Manager for all forensic investigation and energy analysis projects. He also performs construction administration tasks for high performance building projects.

Jim has over 26 years of building science experience in municipal, commercial, and residential construction. With extensive experience in forensic testing and commissioning of a building’s four principal envelope control layers (i.e., water, air, vapor, and thermal), Jim identifies, analyzes, and recommends solutions for energy efficiency problems and performance issues in new and existing buildings. He is responsible for construction detail development, material specifying, and project management.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is certified in the installation of building weatherization systems and is a RESNET certified HERS Rater. Jim has attended numerous training sessions and symposiums, including Building Science Fundamentals, Building Enclosures and Mechanical Systems/ICC, Heating, Cooling and Radiant Technology for Residential Projects/AIA Minnesota, Beyond Residential Testing (Energy Conservatory Large Building Blower Door Training), FLIR Basic Training, and OSHA 40 Training.

Jim and his wife enjoy spending time with their four adult children; they especially enjoy outdoor activities like camping, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. A unique activity shared by the Larson family is participating in show skiing with the Brainerd Ski Loons Water Ski Show Team. If there is any time left over, Jim and his wife also enjoy traveling.
